Meet the Leadership Team

Emili Willet
Director
With over 30 years of experience working with children and families, I am passionate about creating nurturing, engaging learning environments where young minds can thrive. I hold a Master’s degree specializing in Child Development and have dedicated my career to supporting early childhood education, fostering strong foundations for lifelong enriched learning.
This year marks my tenth year working at the UCSC Early Education Program. It has been an incredible journey filled with meaningful connections, growth, and a shared commitment to early childhood development.
Beyond my professional role, my greatest joy is being a mom to three amazing children—including a set of twins! Watching them navigate college and embark on their own journeys has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life.
I am honored to be part of a community that values early education and look forward to continuing to support children and their families in the years to come.

Alison Steinberg
Site Supervisor
With over 20 years of experience in early childhood education, I bring a joyful, relationship-based approach to supporting young learners and their families.
My journey began at Chico State, where I discovered my love for working with children, and continued with a Master’s degree from San Francisco State, focusing on emergent curriculum, co-constructivist theory, and teacher research. I believe in creating intentional, laughter-filled classrooms where children learn through play, curiosity, and meaningful relationships.
After years in diverse childcare settings, I came full circle in 2020 by joining UCSC—returning to the academic world with a renewed sense of purpose and connection.
As a mom of two wonderful girls, I understand the importance of partnership with families and thrive on connecting them with valuable community resources. When I’m not in the classroom, you’ll find me curled up with a good book or enjoying all things winter.

Taylor Hartley
Administrative Coordinator
Hi, I’m Taylor, the Administrative Coordinator for the Early Education Center, a role I had the pleasure of stepping into in 2023! I hold a BA in Social Work and a minor in Art, with a focus on art therapy. For over 15 years, I’ve worked with children in different capacities, using art as a powerful tool to support their emotional and developmental growth. I believe that creative expression offers a unique pathway for children to understand themselves and navigate the world around them. My approach has always been centered on fostering nurturing, supportive environments where children can thrive emotionally, socially, and creatively.
Joining the EEC has been a wonderful opportunity, and it’s been a joy to become more connected to the Santa Cruz community. Originally from the East Coast, I’ve been embracing the beauty of Santa Cruz for over a year now, where I live with my partner and our sweet dog. Outside of work, I’ve taken up gardening as a new hobby—finding joy in growth and learning, just as I encourage in the children I work with.
