Toddler Program

Toddler: Children ages 18 months to 36 months
The toddler program is focused on treating children with respect and as individuals. This encourages toddlers and adults to trust each other, learn to problem solve, and embrace their ability for self-discovery.

Our approach
We provide many opportunities for the children to receive nurturing, individualized attention from the teaching staff as they develop their self-help skills into becoming autonomous individuals.
The toddler classroom is rich with engaging, hands-on experiences including:
- Sensory exploration
- Art and music activities
- Gardening and nature walks
- Small group time for stories and songs
- Dramatic play and manipulatives
- Simple cooking projects
- Outdoor play and movement
Toddlers grow in their abilities to come together as a group. They begin to seek out behaviors and actions that will help as they become increasingly interested in engaging with peers as opposed to adults. Teachers plan curriculum based on children’s interests and developmental needs and provide an indoor and outdoor environment that promotes self-concept, independence, and exploration.
Our curriculum
The curriculum is guided by both children’s interests and developmental needs, with special attention to the natural “play urges” that drive toddler exploration. These urges include:
- Gathering: Collecting and organizing objects
- Giving & Taking: Sharing and retrieving items with others
- Destroying: Knocking down or deconstructing materials
- Hiding: Covering or concealing objects or themselves
- Transporting: Moving items from one place to another
- Trajectory: Throwing, dropping, or propelling materials
- Connecting: Joining objects together
By honoring these innate drives, our teachers create meaningful experiences that support toddlers’ growth across all areas of development—social, emotional, cognitive, and physical. Through this thoughtful, play-based approach, toddlers are empowered to explore the world with joy and curiosity.
